Barium hydroxide octahydrate, with the chemical formula of Ba(OH)2·8H2O, is a white crystalline powder, easily soluble in water and methanol, and slightly soluble in ethanol. It absorbs carbon dioxide in the air to form barium carbonate precipitation. It is mainly used as an additive in the petroleum industry, and is also used in barium-based grease and oil refining, beet sugar, medicine, plastic stabilizer, organic synthesis, water softening, and glass and enamel industries.
